CCJHA Rules & Regulations

CCJHA RULES & REGULATIONS

The CCJHA follows Hockey Canada's Playing Rules with the addition of the following:
  RULES :
  1. NO INTENTIONAL CONTACT. Any intentional contact with another player will result in a penalty.
  2. Minor penalties are 3 minutes running time; major penalties are 7 minutes running time; misconducts are 13 minutes running time.
  3. A player’s third penalty in a game will result in an automatic game ejection (no suspension if all three penalties are minor penalties).
  4. Any penalties involving physical/unsportsmanlike contact (eg. slashing, boarding, body checking, roughing, etc.) received in the last 2 minutes of a game will be reviewed and subject to suspension.
  5. Major penalties will result in an automatic game ejection, plus an extra game suspension, and a review.
  6. Major penalties such as hitting from behind, boarding, head contact (with intent to injure) may - at the discretion of the referee and following a Board review - carry a longer suspension.
  7. Suspensions carry over to the playoffs and the following season.
  8. Players serving a suspension are not eligible to be called up or to participate in any tournament or Allstar games.  
  9. Repeated suspensions may cause a player to be expelled from the league.
  10. All accumulated penalty minutes will be monitored by the Board and, if deemed excessive, will result in a verbal warning to the coach and player, followed by suspension of the player should the number of accumulated minutes be too high.
  11. Players using abusive language or showing unsportsmanlike behaviour (eg. slamming sticks, arguing calls, slamming doors, etc.) will be assessed a minor penalty.  Such penalties will be monitored by the Board and repeat offenders will be suspended.
  12. Ejected or suspended players may not stay on the bench or assist in coaching the game. 
  13. Any players who do not adhere to the CCJHA Players Code of Conduct will face disciplinary action by the Board, up to and including expulsion from the league.
  14. It is the Division Rep’s responsibility to notify both the player and the coach of a suspension before the player’s next scheduled game.
  15. It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure non-eligible players do not play.    
 REGULATIONS :
  1. Regular season games and exhibition games are 3 periods of 20 minutes running time.
  2. Playoff games are 3 periods of 20 minutes running time, with a 3-player shootout, if necessary, to determine a winner.
  3. No-touch icing.
  4. Anytime a puck strikes a goalie’s helmet, it is deemed a “dead puck”, meaning play stops and if a goal results, it is ruled a “no goal”.
  5. Scorekeepers may only stop the clock if signalled by the referees.
  6. The last 3 minutes will be stop time if the score is within 2 goals (eg. if the score is 3 - 0, there will be no stop time; if the score is 3 - 1, there will be stop time).
  7. Only captain (C) or assistant captain (A) players are to address the referees.
  8. Both teams have one 1-minute time out available to them per game.
  9. Although call-ups are encouraged if a team has less than 10 available players, they must be made through the Division Rep.
  10. Any non-suspended player is eligible to be called up to a higher division.  Only goalies are eligible to substitute for other goalies in their division.
  11. Players can participate freely in different sports or in different leagues; however, once registered in the CCJHA league, attendance at CCJHA games and practices must be their priority.
  12. Any player can be traded to another team if it is deemed to benefit the player, the teams, and/or division parity.
  13. Every player must wear the team awarded jersey and matching socks for all games.
  14. Players must give fair notice to their coaches if they are unable to attend games or practices.        
 GENERAL:
  1. Any player who wishes to address the Board can do so via their Division Rep (contact information is posted on the league website).
  2. A Division: 2 Refs; B Division: 2 Refs; C Division: 1 Ref & 1 Linesman; D & E Division: Volunteers  
  3. All teams require one head coach and at least one assistant at all games and practices.
